Some people put this up there in the top five worst movies ever. It is pretty great...
It's a pretty standard kind of alien monster landing in a small town and eating people kind of deal. The monster is made out of various kinds of felt and rubber and is quite fantastic. The scenes of him eating people whole are delicious. Even though it's a real cheapo, just by want of it's super contrasty old time black and whiteness it looks pretty great. The music is a lovably woeful attempt at "groovy" and "menacing" too, some wonderfully crappy organ playing...
The oddest thing is the narration. For great parts of the movie you'll be watching two people have a conversation, but instead of hearing their voices, you hear a narrator outlining what they're saying to each other. The part where he's explaining about how when young men grow up and get married their unmarried buddies can become resentful and so forth is priceless...
