After Senator Everret Mckinley's smash version of 'Wild Thing', here President Nixon steps up to deliver a vow of love to the whole damn country (looks like Checkers doesn't need any convincing).
Can't find any info on this 45, but I'd guess it came out smack bang in the middle of 1972 Nixon re-election campaign.
Such a perfect song for Nixon. He's a total villain of course, but he's such a sad, lonely, downtrodden character you can't help but feel for the fucker as he triiiiiiiiiiiies to make the electorate love him. And even though he did indeed get re-elected, I suspect he always had the feeling that none of those damn sonsofbitches REALLY loved Richard Milhouse Nixon. Except Checkers...
THE GRIMM BROS - I'M GONNA MAKE YOU LOVE (THE PRESIDENTS LOVE SONG)
My god, I used to have this record!!! Many thanks for digging it up :D (Now... if you could post the flip side...)
ReplyDeleteFurther info for those unfamiliar with it: The flip side was called "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me (Instant Analysis)" and featured news reports from (fictional) station WOMB, Quad Cities ("When the news breaks out, WOMB breaks up!!"). [I can also find very little info on the short-lived Mod label.]
