Two young guys from Perth on drums and guitar making strange, brain melting music. Sounds like glass breaking meditatively. Joe Valino - (Everything I Touched Turned To) Gold (RCA, 1959)

AAAAAARRRGGGHHHH I just can't stop listening to this thing. The fuckin key changes that ramp up the excitement and those percussive clicks that are way too loud and the way those horns pump like some machine out of Metropolis and then the twinkles come in toward the end and jesus, the way it just stomps. Thrilling.

Joe Valino was from Philly. He had one hit with "Garden Of Eden" and a whole bunch of non hits. Some of his other records are pretty cool cinematic crooner things, but I haven't head any that come close to this...

ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES (Adam McKay, 2013)

I had feared the worst, but this really turned out much better than it had any right to. Of course it doesn't scale the Olympian heights that the original Anchorman somehow accidentally did, but it's probably my favourite Will Ferrel movie since. He's always funny, but Ron Burgundy seems to be the character he was born to play. All kinds of stupid hilarious stuff happens, and even the bits which are blatant throwbacks to the first movie with celebrities shoehorned into them all made me laugh. We tried to watch Terence Malick's experimental humanist epic "The Tree Of Life" beforehand, and i'm glad we turned it off and watched this.

I think it will start with some regular old soul and some latin soul for the soul a go go vibes on saturday, then some tropical hawaiian type things for the vibraphonic orchestra gig at luwow on friday, and then some disco type things cause that just seemed to be making it's way into my box when i was packing things, and also maybe some punky wunky stuff too!
