BOP SHOP CLOSING PARTY

The venerable Hound Dogs Bop Shop is closing on december 24th, and they're having a celebratory closing party this Sat the 17th from 1pm.

Though it's slightly out of the way location and obscure opening hours might made it seem more like a gentleman's club than an active retailer in the last decade, older musicians have told me time and again what a vital impact the place had on the local music scene back in the late 70's, when it was basically the only place one could find vintage blues, r'n'b, rockabilly and so forth. Every week they'd discover new/old records there, start playing them in their own bands, write songs inspired by them, and thus the musical pallette was expanded a hundred fold.

Though i've hardly set foot in the place since I lived in the area, I always enjoyed it's musty brown smell, jammed racks and sense of history, and always endeavoured to remember which hours of which day it was open and go back for a dig. Guess we've all got one last chance!

Here's the skinny...
Hound Dog's Bop Shop Farewell - feat. Dancehall Racketeers & Starliners

Melbourne’s home of the best roots records for 37 years, winds up business for the last time on 24 December 2011. So, to celebrate and mourn the end of an era, the Dancehall Racketeers and Starliners, will be performing outside the shop on Saturday, 17 December from 1 pm.
The Bop Shop will be sorely missed. So, we look forward to a great celebration and seeing you all down there.
