WILD WILLIE WISE AND THE CONGREGATION - BURN, BURN, BURN (Baja 5402)


Very strange record! I flipped out when I heard this thing over at Mohair's house one day and eventually managed to extract it from him in a trade.

It's a sort of devil-worship frantic rave up type thing, with odd semi improvised sounding vocals by wild willie about playing with the devil and burning, and lots of extremely loud shaky percussion that sounds like it's being played by someone's children. The other side is the same backing track, but instead of the vocal it has a somewhat haphazardly played organ. There's a weird kind of incongrous funky bass breakdown in there at some point too. It's all rather odd and breathtaking.

This thing was written and produced by Jan Cox, an eccentric new age philosopher who was also known to play a mean blues piano and was involved in the music scene in Atlanta through the 50's and 60's. I suspect that him twonking away on the organ on side b...
