Paul Wibier - "Satan" (Born Mean), 1969

For a little while I was having a hard time being interested in anything other than this song...

It's from a biker movie I have yet to see called "Satan's Sadists". A mystery man going by the name "Harley Hatcher" composed and arranged the soundtrack, and though it's quite a cult item, to me most of it's fairly forgettable. Thankfully the best song on it slipped out as a promo 45 at some point, and slipped into my hands recently. The organy 70's arrangement and the croony singing is pretty great, but really it's all about the lyrics.

All together now...

"I was born mean
By the time I was 12
I was killing
killing for Satan..."

  2. Do you mostly serve as an author just for your site or maybe for some other Internet portals?

  4. On my 40th birthday I did my one and only stage performance, riffing a mash of the lyrics to Satan together with Jim Morrison's The End, while a local band performed Sir Paul Raggedy Flagg's classic, Momma Poppa Romper Stomper behind me. It was epic!

  6. I'm a HUGE fan of Satan's Sadists- the best biker movie ever made- and the soundtrack especially. I'm trying to track down the so-underrated Paul Wibier- there's next to nothing about him online, and he deserves a Wkipedia page and a proper Interview for his many fans.
Did you ever find a copy of the movie? Alpha Video reissued it about 10 years ago,so you should be able to find it. They sell through Oldies, com & have advertised in my 'zine, Psychoholics Unanimous.
'Is it Better to Have Loved and Lost' is probably my favorite song in the world, and 'Satan' is pure genius. Paul also had music on the soundtrack of 'Wild in the Streets'! Hopefully soon I will have much more information to share...

  7. I just noticed you are in Australia! I hope you've been able to see the movie by now, as you probably can't play a DVD from the US! It was produced by the late, great Al Adamson, and starred Adamson's wife, Regina Carroll, and Russ Tamblyn, father of Amber Tamblyn and brother of Larry Tamblyn of the Standells! It's a harsh movie, but done well. How did you get a copy of the 7"/45? I think it's pretty rare; I actually got one myself at a convention in '92, there were a few of them, and I hate myself for not buying more,as the one I have is in my jukebox and every time I use it, I play both sides! Miraculous it hasn't worn out. I need a copy of the soundtrack. The first song on side two is another favorite of mine.
